Olympus Marathon takes place in Olympus, the mythical "mountain of the gods" on the last weekend of June. The course of the marathon follows the sacred course of the faithful in the ancient times, who ascended from the worshiping city of Dion to the summits of Mount Olympus at the beginning of the summer to sacrifice the supreme god, Zeus, and put down their tributes.
Olympus Marathon brings together athletes from around the world who come to the mythical mountain to take part in an international racing match and enjoy a mountain that besides the National Park has been declared by UNESCO as a "World Natural Heritage Monument".
