Typography as an act of art

Futuristic books, a great chapter of the Russian avant-garde, are published in cubistic and primitivist illustration, with typographic experimentations and the use of a “hyper-orate” poetic language, which constitutes a further example of the avant-garde artists intentions, for amalgamation of the arts and a radical overhaul of the representation and communication codes with their audience.

The cube-futuristic artists group, in their avocation seeking new artistic forms, married, form the first moment, naturally and effortlessly poetry to visual arts. The innate offspring of this union was the book.

Today the term books-artworks or artists’ books covers areas restricted in two dimensions in the form of book pages suspended on the wall or extended in space in the shape of a sculpture or installation, utilizing collage, drawing, photography, digital compilation and archival documents, adopting versions of intangible representation, but also commenting the tradition of the art-book itself.
