The International Book Fair of Thessaloniki was founded on May 2004 aiming to incorporate Greece on the map of the international book exhibitions creating a new focal point of cultural and commercial exchanges in the area of global publishing production. In Thessaloniki, in the heart of the Balkans, in the crossroads between East and West, a new perspective for the Greek book was born.
The International Book Fair of Thessaloniki, the most important annual appointment for books, congregates every year hundreds of publishers, writers, translators, literature agents, journalists, booksellers, librarians, institutions, agencies and organizations of the book, from Greece, the Balkans, Western Europe, southeast Mediterranean and the rest of the world. An open invitation from the world of books to the reader-public, that embraces it more and more year after year, elevating the exhibition to the top cultural foundations of the country (its loyal audience exceeds 100,000 – from Thessaloniki but also from the whole of Greece).
Outlining a stunning twelve year course the International Book Fair of Thessaloniki constitutes today a reference point for all book professionals in Greece and abroad, the most important cultural event for the book in Greece, with a strong professional profile and international character.
This year’s honored country is Russia.
